CONNECTING SHAPES-PATTERNS-DIRECTIONAL WORDS-NUMBERS WITH MUSIC
As we get closer to the end of the year, the wiggles come out too. Stressed classroom teachers, frazzled music teachers and friendly subs all need help keeping kids energy focused. Why not do a fun Scarf activity?  What no scarf? How about a “magic finger in the air”. “Magic Pencil?” “Magic eraser?”  What do you have in your room?  Use it!  Kids will buy into a “magical” experience. Put on some fun music, or some soothing music and let them draw the shapes in the air.
Print out the cards and let students in small groups arrange them and practice drawing together.
Print and put in your emergency sub folder for a rainy or sick day.
Connecting Math to Music is an important part of the music teacher’s job too. Helping student make connections through movement activities gives them multiple ways to learn. They are , moving, using their brain to connect to shapes, patterns, numbers and reading the words. All the while–they are engaged.

This bundle of Cards and Power Point Show can be used by any Primary Teacher or Music Teacher. Just play your own music and show the cards for about 15-30 seconds and watch as your students create shapes, patterns, numbers using Directional Words from the Common Core Math Standards.

Need a Brain Break? Just pull out a couple of the cards and have students use their “Magic Scarf fingers in the air”.

Need an Emergency Music Sub Plan? Create a CD with some tunes and let your sub show the cards to the students-keep kids busy while you are away.

Need a Common Core Math Connection to Music? Use these cards by having students read the words aloud-then do the activity.
