September Small Goals
September is actually my 2nd month of school. I’ve just finished all of the classroom management, school wide songs, get to know you games and organization tasks that go with the beginning of the year. Now we’re in deep. No slacking off for me.
GOAL #1
My first goal for September is to have all of my program scripts written, music organized, and sheet music printed in a nice notebook that I can use over the next 8 mos. I’ve begun the task–but it will take a great deal of effort to get them completely organized for teaching.
I do programs for K-4 and 2 Chorus programs. I’ve got Kinder and 4th ready and the other ones are in various stages of preparation. If I can get them all in their notebooks, then I think I’ll sleep better and I’ll get to write some new songs for my store and family.

GOAL #2
Breathe through the day. I make a conscious effort to get up a bit early and do yoga in the mornings to stretch my body and center my thoughts and say a thank you for the things I’ve got. During the day I can feel those shoulders creeping up and sometimes my voice straining a bit as I try to talk over kids. When this happens I take a deep breath and soften my stance and my voice. I may even do a little stretch to regroup–and Kinder-2nd grade will join me too. It’s important for me to breathe deeply throughout the day and stay grounded in my plans, expectations and goals for my classes. When things go awry-breathe.
This photo was taken at the TPT Las Vegas Conference last summer.

GOAL #3
I’m training for a sprint Duathlon in October. So I’m going to have to keep up with my workouts. I had a set back with my foot and it’s still giving me some problems, but I’m working around it. Exercising 5-6 days a week is a good goal, but sometimes I get too tired from work and don’t want to do it. My goal will be to complete 5 work outs per week to prepare for my Duathlon. Can I do it?

Remember it’s not how fast you run the race-but that you finish it…or more humorously…I changed the words from “BEAT IT” to “do it, just do it…doesn’t matter if you win or lose it…just DO IT”…
