Activity #1 Play the Beat and Switch Your Instrument

• Place your percussion instruments where students can get to them easily. Either in the middle of your circle or in a row in the front of your classroom.
• Tell students that they are going to get to choose an instrument.
• And when the music stops, they need to FREEZE and stop playing.
• Then everyone will get to switch instruments.
• Play the music for at least 30-45 seconds.
• You may want to limit switching of instruments to only the students you will choose. (Or have a student do the choosing.) Play the game enough times so that everyone get’s a chance to change instruments.
