STRETCHY BAND MUSIC ACTIVITIES

In this video I’m sharing music lessons using the Bear Paw Creek Stretchy Band.

Here’s my link (affiliate Amazon link)

Read this post to learn how to scaffold your stretchy band music activities across grade levels , integrate instruments and create units of learning with singing, moving and playing as well as creating activities.

STEADY BEAT ACTIVITY

Let’s play the steady beat with stretchy bands. In lesson A we’ll sit in a circle and bounce on the beat to a fun song “LET’S WALK AROUND THE SUN” by Sing Play Create.

HOW TO DO THE ACTIVITY

Begin by sitting and bounce on the beat. Use little and big bouncing for the words in the song.

FLOWERS- LITTLE

SUN- BIG

Next stand up and do the activity.

Then, practice walking on the REFRAIN and then stopping and bouncing on the VERSES.

After students can comfortably do these activities, try placing a drum in the middle of the circle. (It could be the sun). Then have different “colors” take turns playing the beat on the drum during the song.

Start and stop the music to change places.

RHYTHM OSTINATO INSTRUMENT ACTIVITY

HOW TO DO THE ACTIVITY

LEARNING GOAL: Play an Ostinato

Choose a simple nursery rhyme song that your students may know and have them play an ostinato as they sing the song.

First have them sing and play the beat.

Next play the Ostinato.

Then Sing and play the ostinato.

Then you can incorporate instruments into this activity.

Choose an instrument for the beat, Ostinato and the melody rhythm/or melody on xylophone.

Use the colors of the band to choose students to play instruments as the rest of the class plays the Ostinato on the stretchy band.

CALM DOWN MOVEMENT ACTIVITY

After every stretchy band activity use the same calm down song. This way students will know it’s time to calm down and transition to another activity or end class.

I use a song I wrote “Rainbows in the Sky”.

You can do the calm down standing or sitting or both.

I demonstrate the actions in the video.
