Let’s talk interactive rhythm activities. There’s so many ways to engage students in reading, playing and writing rhythms.

Keep reading to get some ideas for your elementary music classroom.

I like to use interactive white boards and computers. So I made these interactive google slides activities for my classes. I started with the mixed version so I could use it for all of my classes.

Then I developed LEVEL 1 for quarter and eighth notes. There’s a more detailed one you can purchase or you can get the Free one when you subscribe to the Sing Play Create Newsletter.

SPRING RHYTHM PLAY ALONG FREEBIE

I’ll be adding more sets of these activities for quarter rests, half notes, sixteenth, and syncopa.

I like to use the video to introduce note values.

VIDEO ACTIVITY IDEAS

Here are some ways you can use the video in your music classes.

Students can watch the video and play the rhythms.

Next have them make up patterns of their own using the words in the video.

Just pause the video at 1:36 and have them choose a picture. Ask them to play if for 4-8 beats.

Divide into teams and play against each other.

Leave the game directions for a Sub!

TIPS

Summer Camping themed elementary music rhythm activities with video and drag and drop google slides, digital images for online and in person music class lessons.

Project the activity onto the screen. Then have different students come up and use the drag and drop activities.

I like to divide the students into teams or small groups for this type of activity.

These activities also work well as CENTERS or STATIONS.

Use the presentation at one station for students to practice playing rhythms.

Use the Video at a station for students to review and play notes.

Finally, set up a computer or Chrome book and use the Google Slides activity for your 3rd station.

You’ll find that these activities are interactive and engaging as well as seasonally friendly for Summer or Anytime elementary music lessons.

WHY THESE WORK

These activities really help a teacher reach all students. The variety of materials and the diverse learning opportunities foster student engagement and learning.

Students love moving the images into the boxes to create their very own rhythm patterns.

Keep engagement high in your virtual classes using interactive google slides activities.

Keep on teaching rhythms, practice, assess using the presentation, video and google slides drag and drop activities.

These materials make a great SUB lesson with video, presentation and google slides activities.
