Here’s a fun St. Patrick’s Day scarf movement lesson tutorial to teach beat, and dynamics.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY SCARF ACTIVITIES

Here’s the outline of the video!

  • [1:48] SCARF STEADY BEAT
  • [3:03] SCARF DYNAMICS HIGH AND LOW
  • [3:35] FREE SCARF MOVEMENT TO IRISH MUSIC
  • [5:20] SING A SCARF SONG WITH MOVEMENT
  • [8:55] FOLLOW THE SCARF ACTIONS
  • [10:35] LET’S CALM DOWN SCARF SONG (HARP & FLUTE)

STEADY BEAT SCARF ACTIVITY

What could be more fun than to bounce a scarf on the beat?

One thing that I like to do with this type of activity is to have the children switch hands. Then I ask them to tell me which hand was easier?

I made some slides and a video with music for students to follow the pictures.

DYNAMICS SCARF ACTIVITY

Students can show dynamics with a scarf too!

I made a video of the scarf movement showing the melody of the instrumental music that I wrote. You can use the activity with any music.

First allow students to experiment with the scarf to show the melody going up and down. You may want to sing a simple melody that you’ve been working on like “Bluebird, Bluebird”, or “Rain, Rain Go Away”.

I show another example in this video using the song “Grizzly Bear”.

FOLLOW THE ACTIONS

Here’s another scarf movement activity that has students following the actions with fun Irish music.

CALM DOWN MOVEMENT

Finally, it’s time for a calm down activity. The song I wrote is “Twirl Around”. Students can do this scarf activity and calm down.
