SCARF MOVEMENT FOR “HOW TO CATCH A LEPRECHAUN” A STORY AND MUSIC ACTIVITY
Ready for some scarf movement for “How to Catch a Leprechaun”🍀 book? Honestly, I’m having so much fun putting activities together for this adorable children’s book. 📚 This video is a music teaching tutorial for a scarf movement activity that goes along with the song I composed for the book. I wrote a melody and a refrain that’s a repeating part after each page in the book.
There’s 2 levels of scarf movement which I demonstrate in the video. That way you can use the materials across several grad levels which makes your teaching job easier!
There’s a pattern for the REFRAIN or repeating part of the song to be sung after each “verse”. And I created a special action for each of the verses too! The verses are 16 beats and the refrain is 16 beats.
WHY USE LITERATURE TO TEACH MUSIC?
- Enhances Engagement and Comprehension – Combining storytelling with music captures children’s attention, making learning more enjoyable. The rhythm, melody, and movement help reinforce the story’s themes and emotions, deepening their understanding and connection to the material.
- Supports Multisensory Learning – Pairing books with music activities engages multiple senses—listening, movement, and visual cues—which strengthens memory and learning. This approach benefits all learners, including those with different learning styles and needs.
- Encourages Creativity and Expression – Music activities allow children to interact with stories in a dynamic way, whether through singing, movement, or instrument play. This fosters creativity, self-expression, and a deeper appreciation for both music and storytelling.
